How does a tele-learning session work?
A tele-session provides participants with information and support via the telephone. All participants are on the phone at the same time in a teleconference. A moderator is present on the telephone and they guide the presentation and the discussion or question and answer periods.
How do I register for tele-learning sessions that are of interest to me?
In order to register for one of our tele-learning sessions, you must first register as a member of the Care-ring Voice Network either via the internet or by telephone. Registration is free. To register by telephone, call 1-866-396-2433 and speak to one of our helpful volunteers. To register by internet, click here.
Who hosts the tele-learning sessions?
The content for Care-ring Voice tele-learning sessions is created and hosted by our Network partners. These are health and social service organizations across Canada all working for the benefit of caregivers. Click here to discover more about our Network partners.
I tried to register for a session but received a message that I am not eligible to register for a particular tele-learning session. Why is that?
Each of our tele-learning sessions has different criteria for eligibility. In some cases, we allow participation for people other than caregivers (i.e. professionals, volunteers, people with an illness, etc.) It depends on the content of the session and who it is designed to assist.
Other criteria for eligibility depend on where you live. Our Network partners who create and host our tele-learning sessions often have strict provincial mandates. For example, if the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia is hosting a session, this session will be reserved for residents of British Columbia. On the other hand, when the MS Society of Canada hosts a tele-learning session then anyone in Canada can register.
The personal profile you create when you register as a member of the Care-ring Voice Network determines which tele-learning sessions you are eligible for.
I have registered for a tele-learning session but I don’t know what number to call to access the teleconference?
Every registered member of the Care-ring Voice Network has a member’s page that is accessible once you have logged in to the Care-ring Voice website. Your member’s page provides you with a list of the tele-learning sessions you have registered for, as well as all the information you will need to access the teleconference.
How many people participate in a tele-learning session?
Tele-learning sessions can have as few as 5 and as many as 500 participants. The host organization of the particular session determines the maximum number of registrants allowed. This number is determined based on the structure and flow of the tele-learning session. As a general rule, if a session is designed to have more participant sharing and feedback, the number of registrants allowed is kept considerably lower.
When should I connect to the teleconference?
We ask all registrants to call into the teleconference on the specific date and time of a given session. We prefer that registrants are early rather than late in order to avoid disruption. In certain tele-learning sessions, you may enter the teleconference but notice that your phone is muted (that is, you cannot speak but you can listen)- this likely means that the session has already started. Simply wait for instructions from the moderator. If you try to connect to tele-leaning session too early and your line is put on hold, it simply means that the session moderator has not yet connected- please be patient.
I am unable to connect to the PowerPoint for a specific tele-learning session. What do I do?
Some of our tele-learning session offer PowerPoint presentations to complement the teleconference. Your member’s page will provide you information as to weather a PowerPoint presentation is available for a given session. If you are unable to connect to the PowerPoint, don’t worry. All of the information you will need from the session is available through the teleconference presentation. If you have technical difficulties accessing the PowerPoint during a tele-session, the moderator will be unable to assist you. Please call the Care-ring Voce Network at 1-866-396-2433 after the tele-learning session has ended and we will be able to assist you for future sessions.
Do I need to speak during the tele-learning session?
No one who participates in our tele-learning sessions is required to speak during a session. If you choose, however, you will have the opportunity to ask questions to the moderator or share your perspective on the session topic.
Do I have to pay for this service?
All of our tele-learning sessions are free.
What do I do if I have to leave a tele-learning session before it has ended?
You simply have to hang up your telephone, although we encourage participants to stay for the full length of the session.
What do I do if I forgot my member password?
